Fan In K.C. Sues After Being Hit With Hot Dog

A man has filed a lawsuit against the Royals claiming that he was injured by a flying hot dog last year.

John Coomer has filed a lawsuit seeking more than $25,000 for injuries he sustained Sept. 8 when he was smacked in the eye with a hot dog chucked by the team's mascot.

Coomer claims that the hot dog caused a detached retina and the development of cataracts in his left eye.

Farnsworth Will Make Attempt To Crack Rotation

Kyle Farnsworth will attempt to start for the first time since 2000 when he was with the Cubs.

"Kyle Farnsworth is competing for a job in the rotation," pitching coach Bob McClure revealed Wednesday.

"We're going to lengthen him out and see how it goes," McClure said. "Because what he showed me last year was the ability to back off a little bit and not pitch with his hair on fire. And, to be a starter, you have to be able to just kind of go pitch-by-pitch."

Greinke To Make Opening Day Start

Royals ace Zack Greinke will make his first Opening Day start in 2010.

Greinke was the 2009 AL Cy Young winner after a 16-8, 2.16-ERA season.

"Zack is starting on Opening Day and Gil [Meche] will pitch Game 2, barring anything unforeseen, and both those guys know that already," manager Trey Hillman said.

Meche has started Kansas City's last two openers.
