Royals Claim Robinson Tejeda From Texas

The Kansas City Royals have claimed right-handed pitcher Robinson Tejeda off waivers from the Texas Rangers.

To make room for Tejeda on the 40-man roster, the Royals transferred left-handed pitcher John Bale to the 60-day disabled list. When Tejeda joins the Royals, which is not expected to be in time for tonight's game, a corresponding 25-man roster move will be made.

The 6-foot-3, 230-pounder is 14-17 with a 5.01 ERA in 63 career big league appearances, including 46 starts.

Royals Send Arias To Reds

The Kansas City Royals today announced they have sent minor league righthanded pitcher Henry Arias to the Cincinnati Reds to complete the March 19 trade for righthanded pitcher Brad Salmon.

Arias, 23, will be assigned to Dayton (A). This season for Burlington (A) he went 2-3 with a 3.78 ERA and 2 saves in 18 relief appearances. He originally was signed by the Royals as a non-drafted free agent on February 4, 2003.

Salmon, 28, is currently 5-1 with a 4.43 ERA in 21 appearances (1 start) for Omaha (AAA).

Royals Designate Tomko For Assignment

The Royals designated struggling pitcher Brett Tomko for assignment on Thursday, according to The Associated Press.

The 35-year-old righty is 2-7 with a 6.97 ERA this season.

Kansas City signed Tomko to a $3 million, one-year deal as a free agent in the offseason.
