The Astros have picked up the 2010 option on the contract of manager Cecil Cooper, a move that should secure him for the remainder of the season.
"We wanted to eliminate any confusion or lack of focus on the baseball team," club owner Drayton McLane said. "[General manager] Ed [Wade] and [president] Tal [Smith] approached me several days ago, and I said, 'Absolutely.' "
The Astros are just 4-7 this season, and struggled mightily in their spring games.

The Reds traded Jeff Keppinger to the Astros on Tuesday in exchange for a player to be named later.
"A lot went through my head on the ride over," Keppinger said. "I was wondering if they were going to release me because of the spring I had."
The trade means either Paul Janish or Adam Rosales will make the team as a utility infielder.
