Astros Avoid Arbitration With Rodriguez, Geary

The Astros have signed pitchers Wandy Rodriguez and Geoff Geary to one-year contracts, avoiding arbitration in the process.

"Our goal from the very beginning was to get through the arbitration process and not have to go to a hearing," GM Ed Wade said. "(Assistant GM) Dave Gottfried on Wandy and (assistant GM) Rickey Bennett on Geary were able to get deals done.

"It gives us a chance to focus on getting ready for Spring Training. And it's probably better for the players to focus on getting ready to pitch instead of having to go through the ramifications of going through arbitration."
