Gagne Signs With Quebec Capitales As Starter

Eric Gagne has signed with the Quebec Capitales of the independent Can-Am League.

Gagne won a Cy Young Award as a closer, but he will be used as a starter.

"When he's able to pitch we'll have a decision to make regarding our veterans. He wants to come to Quebec instead of starting at the bottom in the farm clubs," club director Michel Laplante said.

Leyritz Says '07 Fatal Crash Not His Fault

Former major leaguer Jim Leyritz claims that the fatal car crash that killed a woman in 2007 wasn't his fault.

Leyritz has been charged with DUI manslaughter, but says that the death couldn't have been avoided.

"There was no possibility of me avoiding that crash with all of my senses," Leyritz told The Miami Herald. "A mother was taken away from her kids. I can't change that. But I didn't do it. The accident did. And that accident wasn't my fault."

Police say Leyritz was drunk when he ran a red light in his SUV and caused the accident that killed Fredia Ann Veitch, 30, in Fort Lauderdale.

Japanese Fans Fight To Keep Bobby Valentine

For six weeks, the fans of the Chiba Lotte Marines have been engaged in a battle with the front office over the fate of Bobby Valentine, who was told over the winter that his contract would not be renewed for financial reasons, despite his success with the team.

?We would rather fight with Bobby, who says we?re the world?s best fans,? one sign read, ?than with a front office who calls us worthless.?

?Bobby stands behind us. We stand behind Bobby,? read another.
