Selig: World Series Was 'Drama At Its Best'

Commissioner Bud Selig called the events surrounding Game 5 of the World Series at Citizens Bank Park "baseball drama at its best."

"It was a tough week, but it ended beautifully," said Selig after the Phillies defeated the Rays, 4-3, to win their first World Series since 1980. "It was an interesting World Series. It had its challenges. But the last three innings here were really baseball drama at its best. All's well that ends well."

'Relieved' Tazawa Not Drafted In Japan, Eyes MLB

Junichi Tazawa, a hard-throwing right-handed pitcher who wants to play in the major leagues, was not taken in Japan's amateur draft on Thursday.

"I'm very relieved," Tazawa said. "I was very nervous right up until the end of the draft."

Tazawa asked Japanese teams not to draft him so that he could pursue a career in the Major Leagues.

Several teams, including the Red Sox and Cubs, scouted Tazawa while he led Nippon Oil to the corporate league championship this season.

Selig: Rain Would Not Shorten Game 5

Commissioner Bud Selig claims that no World Series game will end early with a declared winner because of rain or any other condition under his watch.

He made the announcement at a new conference on Monday night when he revealed that he had suspended Game 5 because of rain.

"Well, I guess putting everything else aside, it's my judgment," Selig said. "I have to use my judgment. It's not a way to end a World Series. And I think I have enough authority, here, frankly, so that I'm not only on solid ground, I'm on very solid ground."
