Pirates Claim Hayden Penn

The Pirates have claimed Hayden Penn off waivers from the Marlins.

Penn had a 7.77 ERA in 22.0 innings with Florida during the 2009 season, but had a 4.11 ERA and 8.0 K/9 rate in Triple-A.

The teams scouting Mike Lowell include the Mets, Marlins, Brewers and Twins.

His surgically repaired thumb appears fine, and a trade appears likely as the Red Sox don't want him stuck behind Adrian Beltre, Kevin Youkilis and David Ortiz. "He can still really hit, he can play first and can probably go to third once in a while.

Turnbow: Chances Of Making Marlins Are 'Over'

Reliever Derrick Turnbow believes that his chances of making of the Marlins are "over" after he left Tuesday's game with severe shoulder pain.

Turnbow said he was sure he would "be shutdown for while."

He will undergo an MRI on Wednesday and surgery appears to be a possibility.
