Marlins, Turnbow Reach Agreement

The Marlins and reliever Derrick Turnbow have reached a minor-league agreement on a one-year deal.

Turnbow saved 63 games for Milwaukee in the 2005-2006 seasons, but has been limited to a total of 30 2/3 innings in the past two seasons because of shoulder trouble.

The Diamondbacks, Rockies and Dodgers had all expressed interest in Turnbow.

Marlins Preparing For Goodwill Trip To Iraq, Kuwait

The Marlins are preparing for a goodwill trip to Iraq and Kuwait.

Florida manager Fredi Gonzalez will be joined by NL Rookie of the Year Chris Coghlan, catcher John Baker, president of baseball operations Larry Beinfest and four members of the team's Mermaids dance crew.

The group flies Sunday from Washington to Kuwait.

The Marlins say the weeklong trip is the first of its kind for a major league club since the Iraq war began.

Uggla Will Still Be With Marlins On Opening Day

Dan Uggla will be with the Marlins in 2010, at least on Opening Day.

"He is a Marlin and will be a Marlin this season," Samson said Wedneday on 790 The Ticket.

Asked by host Dan LeBatard whether Uggla would be the Opening Day second baseman, Samson replied: "Yes. The fact of the matter is he is a Marlin. I never actually went to bed one night this offseason thinking he was not going to be a Marlin."

The Marlins had trade discussions with several teams about Uggla in December.
