The Marlins have acquired first baseman Nick Johnson for the Nationals for Class AA left-hander Aaron Thompson, according to a major-league source.
The Nationals will pay the approximately $1.8 million remaining on Johnson's salary.
Johnson is a free agent at the end of the season.

Peter Gammons is reporting that the Marlins are close to acquiring first baseman Nick Johnson from the Nationals.
Washington appears motivated to deal Johnson, who will be a free agent at season's end, because he is unlikely to net them a compensation draft pick due to all the injuries he has dealt with this season.
