The Tigers decided to shut him down on Wednesday. There had been hope that he might be able to play in the final few weeks of the regular season or the playoffs. "If you want to get a more thorough report on that, you can talk to the trainer," Leyland said. "He'll put everyone at ease about it and they'll have that once and for all and they won't have to keep talking about it." Martinez suffered a torn ACL in his left knee while working out in January.
