Marlins Call Up Turner For Wednesday Start

The Marlins will call up Jacob Turner to start on Wednesday.

Turner was a first-round pick of Detroit in 2009. Miami has a double-header on Wednesday against Arizona.

"I don't know what game he will start. Probably the early one,’" manager Ozzie Guillen said. "After that, we have to (decide) if he will stay or (go) back (to New Orleans)."

Turner is considered the most promising prospect of all the players the Marlins obtained last month when they traded away four players.

Leyland Confirms Martinez Won't Play In 2012

Victor Martinez will not play for the Tigers this season, manager Jim Leyland has confirmed.

The Tigers decided to shut him down on Wednesday. There had been hope that he might be able to play in the final few weeks of the regular season or the playoffs.

"If you want to get a more thorough report on that, you can talk to the trainer," Leyland said. "He'll put everyone at ease about it and they'll have that once and for all and they won't have to keep talking about it."

Martinez suffered a torn ACL in his left knee while working out in January.
