The Tigers are a new suitor for Cubs right-hander Matt Garza.

Interest in Garza has picked up recently, according to Major League sources.

Multiple teams are pursuing the right-hander aggressively, increasing the odds that he will be dealt before spring training.

The belief is that Cubs president Theo Epstein will trade right-hander Matt Garza this winter.

There are a number of teams looking for a starter and the Yankees, Red Sox, Blue Jays, Tigers and perhaps even Orioles could discuss him with Chicago.

The Red Sox, Reds and Tigers are showing interest in free-agent left-hander Joe Saunders.

Saunders was non-tendered by the Diamondbacks after going 12-13 with a 3.69 ERA in 33 starts this past season.

Al Alburquerque Has Elbow Surgery

Tigers reliever Al Alburquerque has had surgery on his pitching elbow and is likely to be sidelined for the first half of the season.

Detroit says that the right-hander had a screw inserted during an operation Thursday by Dr. James Andrews.

Alburquerque is expected to start a throwing progression toward the end of spring training and potentially return to game action by the All-Star break.

Tigers Sign Octavio Dotel

The Tigers have bolstered their bullpen by signing veteran Octavio Dotel.

The contract is for one year with a team option for 2013.

When he takes the mound for Detroit next season, the right-handed reliever will be playing for a record 13th major league franchise.

Dotel, 38, is currently tied with Matt Stairs, Mike Morgan and Ron Villone after appearing in a game with 12 franchises.
