Leyland Endorses Cabrera As AL MVP

Tigers manager Jim Leyland believes that his first baseman, Miguel Cabrera, is a better American League MVP candidate than Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista.

"[Bautista] can bomb it," Leyland said. "He's got big-time power."

"Just like I was telling [commentator] Jim Price, today everybody was talking about Bautista, and they should be, because that's unbelievable, 42 [homers] or whatever it is, but Cabrera has 32 and [while] Bautista is hitting .263, Cabrera is hitting .341. I'm not downplaying what Bautista has done, because he's been fantastic and seems like a really good kid. I've been very impressed with him. Obviously, when I see him, I talk to him a little bit. I don't mean [these comments] to disrespect him, but [Cabrera's hitting nearly] .100 points higher."

Damon Denies Return To Boston

Tigers outfielder Johnny Damon has nixed a potential return to the Red Sox.

Boston claimed Damon on waivers this week, but he had the right to veto the deal because his contract has a no-trade clause.

"I love Detroit," he told reporters before Tuesday's game.

Damon Leaning Towards Detroit

Tigers outfielder Johnny Damon is leaning against a return to the Red Sox.

Detroit placed Damon on waivers late last week and Boston, one of his former teams, claimed him.

"My gut and everything else tells me Detroit's the place for me," he told reporters on Monday night.

Damon said over the weekend that he hoped to re-sign with the Tigers this winter, even if he was eventually traded.
