Tigers Won't Rush Brandon Inge

The Tigers are pleased with the progress of Brandon Inge, but they won't rush him back to the field.

"We have to be careful, but we're really kind of pleased with his health," manager Jim Leyland said. "His knees feel a lot better than he thought they would at this point."

Asked about when his third baseman might get into a game, Leyland replied, "That may happen earlier than we expected. We could DH him in a game so he could at least hit -- track the ball a little bit.

"But when I say that, it seems like he is ahead of schedule physically, but I don't want to make a big deal about it and have it look like we're putting pressure on him to play.

"I want to make sure it's right. We can't afford to blow it and have a setback. I'll watch him, but I know it's feeling good because he was telling me it's much better than he thought it would be."

He would get $150,000 for being named the LCS MVP, $200,000 for World Series MVP and he gets a suite on the road.

Tigers, Damon Finalize One-Year Deal

The Tigers finalized their one-year deal with outfielder Johnny Damon on Monday.

"This is where I wanted to be," Damon said after completing his $8 million contract. "The Tigers were my first choice. I love it here and think I am a good fit."

When it was apparent that the Yankees wouldn't re-sign him, Damon was courted by the Braves, Tigers and White Sox.

"The Tigers are a scary team and the fact that this team has gotten even younger makes it a lot more fun," he said.
