The Tigers still believe that pitcher Kenny Rogers is undecided regarding whether or not he wants to retire.
The longer he remains unsigned, the greater the belief that he has thrown his final pitch.
"I know that he's probably struggling with it a little bit. He's in such great physical condition," pitching coach Rick Knapp said. "I think he doesn't want to make an announcement and then go back against it, like Brett Favre. I think he's kind of sitting on the sidelines, seeing how it goes.
"Knowing Kenny, the type of athlete he is, he could not pick up a ball for two years and come out firing. Maybe he'll reassess if he gets the itch back."

Tigers' manager Jim Leyland knows he'll be on the hot seat once the 2009 season begins.
"I'm really looking forward to the 2009 season. I think it's a very important season for me. I want to get it out in the open about my contract situation, because the media has asked," Leyland said. "I'd like to work past 2009, but this is real simple.
"If we do well this year, I'll be managing the Tigers. If we don't, I won't be. That's as simple as it is. I'm a big boy; I can handle that."
