Cardinals Acquire Maroth From Detroit

The St. Louis Cardinals have acquired left-handed pitcher Mike Maroth from the Detroit Tigers, ESPN the Magazine's Buster Olney reports.

It is not yet known what the Tigers are getting in return for Maroth, who is 5-2 in 13 starts with a 5.06 ERA this season.

Maroth has a career 50-62 record and 4.81 ERA over six major-league seasons, all with the Tigers.

Tigers' Rogers Back From Blood Clot

Kenny Rogers is back, in more ways than one.

The Tigers ace makes his first start of the season Friday night, less than three months after surgery to remove a blood clot from his left shoulder. It would have been an uneasy procedure for any 42-year-old man, much less a major league pitcher who makes his living throwing with that arm. And, as fate would have it, his first start will be in Atlanta, scene of one of the toughest moments of his long career.

Tigers Acquire McBride From Braves For Ledezma

The Tigers made a deal to bolster their bullpen Wednesday, acquiring righthander Macay McBride from the Braves for lefthander Wilfredo Ledezma.

McBride posted a 1-0 record with 3.60 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 18 games with the Braves this season. He has held lefthanded hitters to just a .160 batting average in 2007.

"We are happy to add a pitcher the caliber of Macay McBride to the Tigers organization," Tigers GM David Dombrowski said. "McBride is a good, young pitcher with major league experience that gets lefthanded hitters out very well."
