Rockies Will Listen To Offers For Holliday

The Rockies would prefer to deal infielder Garrett Atkins, but will listen to trade offers for outfielder Matt Holliday this winter.

Colorado appears to be looking to improve their starting pitcher this offseason.

"It's going to be interesting to see what happens," Holliday has said repeatedly.

Holliday, who will be a free agent after next season, is monitoring the trade speculation. He turned down a multiyear contract offer last spring, and there has been no progress on a new deal since

Rockies Took Serious Look At Longoria In 2007 Draft

Rockies' management thought hard about selecting Evan Longoria with the No. 2 pick in the 2006 draft, but eventually decided upon right-handed starting pitcher Greg Reynolds, leaving Longoria available for Tampa Bay with the next pick.

"Absolutely we had interest in Longoria," Rockies general manager Dan O'Dowd said Wednesday. "It was much talked about, and we went back and forth, between taking a pitcher and taking a position player."

Because the Rockies already had Garrett Atkins and Ian Stewart lined up to play third for years to come, they passed on Longoria.

Longoria played beside Troy Tulowitzki at Long Beach State.
