Blue Jays' McGowan Just Misses No-No, Big Hurt Hits 499th Home Run

Dustin McGowan was looking for a no-hitter and a milestone for Frank Thomas, all in the same game.

McGowan's bid for the second no-hitter in Blue Jays history ended when Jeff Baker singled leading off the ninth inning, and Toronto beat the Colorado Rockies 5-0 Sunday to complete a three-game sweep.

Frank Thomas hit his 499th career homer and Vernon Wells added a three-run drive for the Blue Jays, who got back to .500 for the first time since May 1.

"That would have been priceless, 500 and a no-no," McGowan said.

Helton Doesn't Shoot Down Possibility Of Going To The Yankees

It has been reported Todd Helton would not approve a deal to the Yankees if it came up.

"I have never said publicly that I wouldn't go to any team," Helton said.

"They'd have to want me first," he said of whether he would go to the Yankees.

Helton Happy In Colorado

Had things broken just a little differently this winter, Todd Helton would have taken the field through the first base dugout last night.

But the Red Sox [team stats] and Rockies never worked out a deal that would have shipped the slugging first baseman east, so he instead found himself surrounded by reporters in the third base dugout before last night?s game, addressing what might have been.

"It?s kind of hard to talk about something that almost happened," Helton said. "Lots of things in life almost happen that don?t add up to much. I?m really excited to be playing for the Rockies. We?re playing well, and that?s what I?m focusing on."
