Arenado Impressing As Colorado's Third Baseman Of Future

There has been some talk about Troy Tulowitzki eventually moving to third base and while the shortstop doesn't plan to change positions anytime soon, there is another reason he won't man the hot corner.

Nolan Arenado, Colorado's third baseman of the future, has impressed this season.

Arenado ripped three home runs in his first seven games, but he's hitting .170/.200/.508 in the two weeks since.

The 22-year-old was drafted out of high school and is in his fifth professional season.

Tulowitzki Not Moving To Third, Open To Switch Late In Career

Chipper Jones created a mini-controversy recently when he tweeted that he would move Troy Tulowitzki to third base if he were the Colorado Rockies.

Tulowitzki, who takes the position of shortstop very seriously, is off to a great start, batting .319 with eight home runs and 32 RBIs, and hitting .389 with two outs and runners in scoring position.

"I don't know why he tweeted that. Maybe he's a little bit bored or something, just watching the games," Tulowitzki said jokingly. "But Chipper is a great guy, someone who I have a lot of respect for."

He was a Gold Glove winner in 2010 and 2011 and many consider him the best all-around player at his position.

Tulowitzki said that if there is ever a point in his career when it would benefit the team more for him to play third base, "I'll be all for it."

"But now I'm more valuable at shortstop than I am anywhere else," he said. "We have a great young third baseman (in Nolan Arenado). I'm still one of the better [shortstops], so I don't think there's a reason to make the switch. The other thing is, my injuries haven't happened on defense. They've been more running the basepaths. Things like that. So I feel like I should stay there."

Rockies Place Michael Cuddyer On DL

The Colorado Rockies have placed outfielder Michael Cuddyer on the 15-day disabled list with a neck injury.

Charlie Blackmon, who was recalled to take Cuddyer's place, was in the lineup batting eighth Sunday against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Cuddyer is among the league leaders with a .319 average along with seven home runs, eight doubles and 23 RBIs.

Roy Oswalt Wants To Improve Reputation

Roy Oswalt, who signed a $1.5 million deal with the Colorado Rockies earlier this month, had more than money on his mind.

The veteran right-hander wants to prove that he can still pitch and improve a bit of a damaged reputation. He missed a pair of spring trainings in recent years, made cameo appearances in the Major leagues, took a 10-day sabbatical in Philadelphia and had a negative experience in Texas.

"Life changes, and sometimes you appreciate your profession a little bit more after you're away from it," Oswalt's agent Bob Garber said.

Todd Helton Pleads Guilty To DWAI

Colorado Rockies first baseman Todd Helton has been sentenced to a year of probation and 24 hours of community service after pleading guilty to driving while ability-impaired.

Helton had been charged with driving under the influence and careless driving after his Feb. 6 arrest, but prosecutors dropped those charges under a plea deal with the five-time All Star.
