Cleveland Indians Wiretap

Hafner Needs Knee Surgery, Out 4-6 Weeks

Travis Hafner will have surgery on his right knee on Thursday and is expected to miss four to six weeks.

Indians trainer Lonnie Soloff said that Hafner would have an arthroscopic procedure to repair fraying and irritation in his right meniscus.

Hafner was placed on the 15-day disabled list before Wednesday's game against Kansas City.

Perez Gesture Upsets Royals

The Royals were angered by the animated gestures of Indians closer Chris Perez in the ninth inning of Monday's game.

Perez angered Kansas City's Jarrod Dyson for a gesture he made after striking out the outfielder.

After fanning Dyson on three pitches, Perez walked off the mound and waved his hand in front of his face to mock Dyson, who was unaware of the gesture until seeing it later on videotape.

"It's just terrible," Dyson said.

"Nobody told me about it. As soon as I got done with my at-bat, I went down to see where the pitch was because I felt like the pitch was in and I saw him do that and it (ticked) me off even more."

Phillies, Indians Scouting Kevin Youkilis

The Phillies and Indians are keeping an eye on Kevin Youkilis as he rehabs from injury, according to a report.

Cleveland needs a right-handed bat, but they have yet to actually call Boston about the third baseman.

The Boston Globe also mentioned the Diamondbacks as potential suitors in Sunday's edition.

Will Middlebrooks, who was called up to help fill the void left behind by Youkilis, has been off to a hot start.

Perez Knocks Cleveland Fans For Booing, Low Attendance

Chris Perez used three straight strikeouts to close out a win over the Nationals on Saturday.

The closer then used some more heat to criticize Cleveland fans.

"I was tired of getting booed at home so I figured, 'I'd better throw some strikes.' You can quote that," Perez said.

The first-place Indians rank last in the attendance in the big leagues.

Asked if it bothered him to get booed at home, Perez said, "It doesn't bother me, it p----s me off. I don't think they have a reason to boo me.

"They booed me against the Mariners when I had two guys on. It feels like I can't even give up a base runner without people booing me. It's even worse when there's only 5,000 in the stands, because then you can hear it. It p----s me off."
