Dolan: Indians Won't Stand Pat

Indians' president Paul Dolan claims that the team will not stand pat this offseason despite the country's rough economy.

"As always, we will look to be opportunistic," said Dolan. "We will not pull back from where we ended last season. When we see an opportunity to improve the club, we won't be afraid to do it.

"We like the club we have right now. I'm sure we will add to it before spring training."

Cleveland's payroll at the beginning of the 2008 season was estimated to be around $79 million.

Twins And Blake Progressing On Deal

The Twins and Casey Blake have made progress discussing the framework of a potential deal, length, and general salary range, his agent Jim McDowell said Thursday.

McDowell said eight teams expressed interest in Blake but only four, including the Twins, have discussed a contract.

Other teams with interest include the Indians and the Dodgers.

Indians Pursuing Hoffman, Other Closers

The Indians want to sign reliever Trevor Hoffman, but they won't target just the former Padres' closer.

"If there's a back-end bullpen alternative out there, then we're going to explore it," GM Mark Shapiro told MLB.com on Friday.
