Sabathia Fields New York Questions

C. C. Sabathia has turned down Cleveland?s four-year offer worth more than $17 million a season, and the Yankees have more than $75 million coming off their payroll after this season.

Starters Andy Pettitte, Mike Mussina, and Carl Pavano are all in the final year of their current contracts.

?It?s fine when I go there,? said Sabathia when asked about New York.

?I?m focused on this season right now, playing in Cleveland and trying to win,? Sabathia said, adding later, ?I?ve been here since I was 17. We?ll just have to see what happens.?

RealGM Note: Sabathia was baseball's second best pitcher in 2007 and 'deserved' to make $15.7 million, giving him a Reina Value of +79%. Sabathia is unlikely to find a deal like Johan Santana's six-year, $137.5 million one with the Mets, but he could certainly match or exceed Barry Zito's $126 million contract with the Giants.
