Reds Laugh Off ESPN's Harang Trade Rumors

Walt Jocketty laughed off a report by ESPN'S Peter Gammons that the Reds could possibly trade Aaron Harang. Gammons wrote:

The Reds have let teams know that they will wait and see whether they need to move Aaron Harang during the season. Harang is scheduled to make $12.5 million next season and $12.75 million with a $2 million buyout for 2011. After going 34-23 with a 3.68 ERA from the start of the 2006 season until he made his four-inning relief stint on two days' rest on May 15, 2008, he went 4-11, 5.88. "Aaron's been OK this spring, because he battles so hard," one scout said. "But the life on the ball he runs in on left-handed batters isn't the same."

"I'm not going to comment on something when he doesn't know what he's talking about," Jocketty said.

Assistant GM Bob Miller added, "Did he give a date and name the teams?"

Reds' Bailey Could Start Season In Bullpen

The Reds are entertaining the idea of allowing pitcher Homer Bailey to make the team as a reliever out of spring training.

"Possibly," Reds manager Dusty Baker said. "That's something we've discussed. It depends on if we feel that's better for him in the long run."

Bailey has been groomed all along to be a starter, but Baker was quick to mention that Pedro Martinez, Bob Welch and Nolan Ryan started as long relievers.

Baker: Bonds Is Better Suited For AL

Dusty Baker still believes that Barry Bonds, who he managed in San Francisco, can play baseball.

"I know he can still hit. I talked to his auntie. She said he's working out couple of times a day," Baker said.

"I don't know where," Baker said of where Bonds could play. "He might be better suited for an American League team."
