Reds, Encarnacion Agree On 2-Year, $7.6M Deal

The Reds and third baseman Edwin Encarnacion have agreed to a two-year contract that will pay at least $7.6 million through the 2010 season.

Encarnacion was the last Cincinnati player in arbitration.

Reds' Taveras: 'I Can Steal 100 Bases'

Willy Taveras, the newest leadoff hitter for the Reds, believes that he can improve on the 68 stolen bases he had last season with the Rockies.

"I can steal 100 bases," he said when asked.

"I won't say it will be easy because this game isn't easy," said scout/coach Jamie Quirk. "If he gets his at-bats, gets his bunts down, keeps the ball out of the air, he'll be electrifying. When he bunts the ball in the right spot, with his speed, they can't throw him out.

"He's still learning, too," Quirk added. "He didn't even know how to steal third base until last year. Now he walks into third base. They just can't throw him out."
