Veteran left fielder Tommy Pham is closing in on a minor league deal with the Chicago White Sox, a source told ESPN on Sunday, confirming multiple reports.

The deal is not done, sources said, but it is expected to be finalized.

Yoan Moncada will miss at least three months and could miss up to six months after suffering a left adductor strain, the Chicago White Sox have announced.

Moncada, 28, injured himself running to first base during Tuesday's victory against the Cleveland Guardians. 

Moncada joins outfielder Luis Robert, Jr. and designated hitter Eloy Jimenez on the injured list.

The Chicago White Sox and right-hander Mike Clevinger have agreed to a one-year deal, a source told ESPN, confirming multiple reports.

Clevinger, 33, is 60-39 with a 3.45 ERA in 788 innings across seven seasons in the big leagues, including a 9-9 stint with the White Sox last season.

Right-hander Jake Cousins was acquired by the New York Yankees from the Chicago White Sox on Sunday for cash.

The 29-year-old Cousins had a 4.82 ERA in 9⅓ innings over nine relief appearances for Milwaukee last year, allowing five runs, 10 hits and 10 walks with seven strikeouts 

The San Diego Padres are "in talks" with Tommy Pham and are moving close to an agreement, according to a report.

The deal would be for one year in the $3 million range.

The Chicago White Sox are also interested in Pham should talks with the Padres break down.

Chicago White Sox general manager Chris Getz says that a strong spring helped Dylan Cease's value in advance of his trade to the San Diego Padres this week.

"His last outing in Cincinnati was an impressive one," Getz said Thursday. "There was a lot of buzz at that game. Unsurprisingly, teams really stepped up. ... Up until yesterday, we didn't feel like we had a deal on the table that we felt like met the mark, and it finally came together and we moved on it."

Cease, 28, was traded for three prospects and reliever Steven Wilson.

"Last year wasn't Dylan's best year," Getz said. "There was a level of concern that perhaps he wasn't going to get back to who he's been in the past. Other teams' comfort levels were raised when they were able to see it in person."

Michael Kopech will pitch out of the bullpen instead of the starting rotation for the Chicago White Sox to begin the 2024 season.

"It's not my first choice where I want to be. I like starting, but I've had success in that role," he said of relief duty. "Ultimately we are looking at what's best for the team this year. If I can help us win games in the back of the game, I'm excited to do that."

Kopech was acquired as the major piece in the 2016 trade that sent Chris Sale to the Boston Red Sox. He had success in a primarily relief role in 2021 after missing two seasons because of Tommy John surgery and the COVID-19 pandemic.

He has been inconsistent as a starter since and struggled in three spring training outings after going 5-12 with a 5.43 ERA last season. It was not clear what his bullpen role will be.

The San Diego Padres have acquired right-hander Dylan Cease from the Chicago White Sox, it was announced on Wednesday.

The White Sox are receiving right-hander Drew Thorpe, who is the No. 4-ranked prospect in the Padres' system and No. 64 among ESPN's top 100 MLB prospects, right-hander Jairo Iriarte (the No. 7 prospect among San Diego's minor leaguers), outfielder Samuel Zavala and right-hander Steven Wilson.

The Texas Rangers and Chicago White Sox have had recent discussions regarding a Dylan Cease trade, according to a report.

With Opening Day approaching, the White Sox seem to be "getting more serious" about dealing the right-hander.

The Chicago White Sox have shown interest in free agent starter Michael Lorenzen, according to a report.

Lorenzen slots in behind Jordan Montgomery and Blake Snell among those still on the market.

It's unknown whether Chicago's interest in Lorenzen is contingent on a potential Dylan Cease trade.
