Cuban Slugger Ramirez Signs With White Sox

Cuban slugger Alexei Ramirez has agreed to a deal with the White Sox, giving the club some added punch after it failed to sign two other top offseason targets.

"We have arrived at an agreement with the White Sox for a major league contract for Alexei's services," agent Jaime Torres told The Associated Press on Friday. Torres would not disclose the terms of the deal, and White Sox spokesman Scott Reifert said the club doesn't announce any signings until the player has passed his physical.

Second Annual Civil Rights Game To Pit Mets Vs. White Sox

The New York Mets will play the Chicago White Sox at Memphis on March 29 in the second civil rights exhibition game.

The St. Louis Cardinals beat the Cleveland Indians 5-1 this year in the first game. A day earlier, there was a panel discussion on civil rights in baseball.

"We decided to make it an annual event," Commissioner Bud Selig said Monday. "It was a proud moment for all of baseball."
