White Sox Give Pierzynski Two-Year Extension

Catcher A.J. Pierzynski is being signed to a two-year extension, the White Sox announced before Saturday's game with the Detroit Tigers.

Under the terms of the deal, Pierzynski, 30, still will receive a salary of $5.85 million in 2008, as called for in the final season of his current three-year deal, and he'll be paid $6.25 million in the 2009 and 2010 seasons.

Could This Be The Winter Garland Gets Dealt?

Jon Garland is a free agent after the 2008 season, and has been in the middle of trade rumors over the last four years.

''I think he's thrown the ball outstanding the last month,'' Guillen said of his Garland's latest performance.

As for it being his last start for the Sox, Guillen couldn't go that far.

''I don't think so,'' he said. ''Garland has been traded the last three years, and we still have him. If something happens this winter, I'll say something different.''

White Sox Win, Jim Thome Hits Home Run No. 504

The Chicago White Sox are surging into the season's final week, wondering why they didn't start sooner.

Rookie Jerry Owens went 5-for-6 with three RBIs, the rest of the White Sox lineup followed his lead, and Javier Vazquez used the support for an easy 8-3 victory over the Twins on Saturday.

Vazquez (14-8) gave up only one hit over the first five innings. Jim Thome hit career home run No. 504, Darin Erstad hit one into the upper deck, and every Chicago starter reached base at least once. The White Sox had 16 hits, including three by Erstad.

"That's why you can't ever underestimate these guys and that lineup," Minnesota's Michael Cuddyer said.
