Guillen Melts Down After Loss

White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen has had all he can take of his team's uninspired play.

After the Rangers beat the White Sox 5-4 in 11 innings on Sammy Sosa's sacrifice fly, Guillen let loose with a profanity-spiked tirade questioning his team's commitment and promising changes ahead.

"It's embarrassing day in and day out to do the same stuff," Guillen said. "People are blaming our pitching staff, but the offense comes along and puts more dirt on the grave. Everyone in that room should look in the mirror and be embarrassed."

White Sox To Chase Torii

Look for the Chicago White Sox, who as an American League Central Division rival play the Twins 18 times during the regular season, to make a big effort to sign Torii Hunter if the all-star center fielder isn't re-signed by the Twins.

Hunter, 32, who is the Twins' only .300 hitter and has 26 home runs and 90 runs batted in, could end up with a $75 million, five-year contract. The Twins are expected to offer $45 million for three years.

Jenks' Streak Broken, But Sox Still Win

White Sox closer Bobby Jenks entered the night needing only to sit down the first batter he faced to gain sole possession of the major-league record for consecutive batters retired.

Instead, on a 1-2 offering, slap-hitting Kansas City Royals outfielder Joey Gathright rolled a ground ball through the left side of the infield, adding even more disappointment in a summer of discontent for the Sox.

Jenks -- who now will share the record of 41 consecutive batters with San Francisco's Jim Barr (1972) -- did retire the next three to preserve the victory and pick up his 34th save in front of 35,391 at U.S. Cellular Field.
