Rodriguez Would Have To Be Dealt To Another Big City

Alex Rodriguez's difficult 2006 season continues to be, well, difficult.

"Could you move Alex Rodriguez?" one front-office guy said to Mike Lupica not long ago. "Yeah, you could. It would probably have to be to another big city, like one of the Chicago teams or Los Angeles. But here's the thing to remember about him: People constantly call him a $25 million ballplayer. Well, that's what he gets, sure. But the Yankees are only paying, what, about $15 million of that? If you wanted to, you could move a $15 million player who puts up numbers like his."

Thome Out Of Twins Series

Jim Thome is expected to miss the White Sox's key weekend series with the Twins because of a strained hamstring.

Thome was hurt during Wednesday night's win in Detroit and was not in the lineup for Thursday afternoon's series finale.

"It's about the same as it was last night," said Thome, who had ice and electrical stimulation on his leg before Thursday's game. "Hopefully, it will only be a few days."

Hawkins Clears Waivers

According to industry sources, Orioles reliever LaTroy Hawkins cleared major league waivers yesterday and is eligible to be dealt.

Prior to the July 31 non-waiver traded deadline, the Red Sox were one of three American League playoff contenders to show interest in Hawkins. The New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox were the others.
