Buehrle In Line For Big Raise

The Sox hold a $9.5 million option on Mark Buehrle for 2007, with the anticipation that he will receive a more lucrative contract in the future.

Guillen doesn't believe Buehrle will change.

"Buehrle is Buehrle," Guillen said. "Regardless of what he does and what he did, he couldn't care less. We have a lot of guys like that here. He's just going to pitch his game, have fun and be himself."

Guillen Stands Behind Podsednik Despite Slump

Scott Podsednik insisted after the White Sox' 4-3 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday that he didn't have "[bleep] to say.''

He might want to develop some material because manager Ozzie Guillen has no intention of sitting Podsednik while he's in his current slump.

"I'm going to keep running him out there as long as he has confidence,'' Guillen said. "This kid is my leadoff hitter, and I'm going to keep running him out there until he tells me he can't.

"It's not fair when you struggle to all of a sudden bench you because I've always said the only way to get out of a slump is to swing. I'm not worried about him. I'm worried about him mentally.''

Buehrle To The Cardinals?

The White Sox have a $9.5 million option on Mark Buehrle for 2007, and that's also the last year of Freddy Garcia's contract. Javier Vazquez is signed through 2007 and Jon Garland through 2008. Hard-throwing Brandon McCarthy, the sixth starter, is waiting in the wings.

General manager Ken Williams jokingly told Buehrle "that once we get to his free-agent year, I was just going to put a St. Louis Cardinals uniform in his locker and that would be the end of it. For the last five years, he's been talking about it. I don't know if we've got too much of a real shot, and that's OK."
