Cubs Send Lilly, Theriot To Dodgers

The Cubs have agreed to send pitcher Ted Lilly and infielder Ryan Theriot to the Dodgers in exchange for infielder Blake DeWitt and pitching prospects Brett Wallach and Kyle Smit.

Chicago is also sending $2.5 million to Los Angeles to cover part of the $4.25 million left on Lilly's contract this year.

The Dodgers and Cubs are discussing a deal that would send veteran left-hander Ted Lilly to Los Angeles, according to a source.

The teams have discussed two versions of a possible trade involving Lilly: one that involves only Lilly and another that also involves Cubs infielder Ryan Theriot to the Dodgers along with Lilly.

The Dodgers have their eye on a pair of Cubs -- starting pitcher Ted Lilly and second baseman Ryan Theriot.

According to sources, Los Angeles covets Lilly more.

The Dodgers are also looking at Pittsburgh's Paul Maholm.

The Reds could be a surprise suitor for Cubs starting pitcher Ted Lilly as the trade deadline approaches.

A source close to the situation said that Lilly landing in Cincinnati is a "remote" possibility.

Cincinnati has shown interest in Lilly, but not in the last few days.

Lee Rejected Trade To Angels

Derrek Lee has rejected a proposed trade that would have sent him to the Los Angeles Angels.

Lee made the following statement regarding his decision.

"There may be a time when I'm ready to talk about it, but not now," Lee said.

Ken Rosenthal said despite the proposed deal he has learned that the Angels have pulled back a little bit with their buyer-mentality after falling 8.5 games behind the Texas Rangers.
