Ricketts Officially Assume Control Of Cubs

The Ricketts family officially assumed control of the Cubs on Tuesday upon the closing of its $845 million deal with the Tribune Co.

The sale allows Tribune, which has owned the franchise since 1981, to retain a five percent stake in the team to reduce taxes by an estimated $300 million.

Tribune paid $20.5 million for the Cubs in 1981.

"My family and I are thrilled that this day has finally come, and we thank commissioner Bud Selig and Major League Baseball owners for approving our ownership," Tom Ricketts said in a released statement. "Now we will go to work building the championship tradition that all Cubs fans so richly deserve."

Cubs Looking For Outfield Bat

The Cubs are looking to add a center fielder.

A left-handed batter would fit best, which is why Chicago has been linked to Curtis Granderson.

Scott Podsednik, Rick Ankiel and Coco Crisp have been mentioned as well.

Cubs Still Have Faith In Theriot

The Cubs have told Ryan Theriot that he might be moved from shortstop to second base in the near future.

Chicago could move up shortstop prospect Starlin Castro in the near future.

Despite the possible move, general manager Jim Hendry still has faith in Theriot.

"Ryan feels like if he has to change positions and move to second base, he would have no problems," Hendry said. "He has made it no secret he loves the Cubs and wants to stay."

Sosa Sued In Dominican Court

Sammy Sosa is being sued for $203,000 by a businessman in the Dominican Republic who says the former Major Leaguer owes him for commission on a house sale, amongst other things.

Carim Abu Nabaa alleges that Sosa has not paid him a commission of $150,000 on a house sale, $43,000 for a luxury watch, and $10,000 for getting Reggaeton singer Don Omar to perform at Sosa's 41st birthday party.

Jays Contact Cubs About Halladay

The Blue Jays have reached out to the Cubs to gauge their interest in pitcher Roy Halladay.

Milton Bradley isn't on Toronto's wish list, but they are looking for top prospects from Chicago.

Even if Bradley isn't included in a potential deal for Halladay, the Cubs would have to move him and his large contract to make financial room for Halladay.
