Is Cuban A Viable Suitor For Cubs?

Mavericks' owner Mark Cuban could be more of a viable suitor than initially believed as the sale of the Cubs heads towards a possible resolution, according to The Chicago Sun-Times.

"They're all viable until the league tells us they're not," said Cubs' chairman Crane Kenney, who is heading owner Sam Zell's efforts to sell. "[Cuban] owns a professional basketball team, right? Somebody thought he was a suitable owner of a professional team. But it's not my job to say who's viable and who isn't."

Cuban recently suggested that his fellow NBA owners should try to help his cause rather than hurt it.

Pinella Sticking With Wood As Closer

Cubs' Manager Lou Pinella plans to stick with closer Kerry Wood despite his struggles on the mound, according to The Chicago Tribune.

Wood blew back-to-back saves this weekend against the Pirates, and many are wondering when Carlos Marmol will fill the role as the team's closer.

"Woody has a job here," Piniella said of Wood before Sunday's loss. "That's his role. ... I have confidence in him. He has to go out and do it."

"It's tough enough doing the closer's job when you're not putting yourself into trouble," Pinella said. "We have to figure out how we can help him [avoid] it. I'm not a pitcher, but it's the third time it's happened, and it's cost us every time."
