Cubs Willing To Trade Prior?

Four years ago, Mark Prior had the kind of stature that Johan Santana has now, as the pitcher that everybody would love to have. But now the Cubs have made it known that they are willing to trade the former All-Star pitcher, rival executives say.

Prior, 27, had shoulder surgery last April and has received a very encouraging prognosis from Dr. James Andrews, and he is expected to pitch in 2008.

Wood Stays In Chicago With One-Year Deal

The Cubs and right-handed pitcher Kerry Wood agreed to terms on a one-year contract, the team announced Monday.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The coming season will mark the 30-year-old Wood's 14th in the Cubs organization. He has a 72-57 record and 3.67 ERA in 211 appearances (178 starts) in all or part of nine major league seasons with Chicago. Wood was selected by the Cubs with the fourth overall pick in the 1995 draft.

Wood Unlikely To Re-Sign With Chicago

Kerry Wood seems unlikely to re-sign with the Cubs, who then would pursue a proven reliever to replace him. It's also getting closer to crunch time on Mark Prior, who could be traded or non-tendered if he hasn't agreed to a deal by Dec. 12. The Cubs want him to give them an option for 2009 in addition to a one-year deal for '08, his last season before free agency.
