Cubs Won't Drop Edwin Jackson From Rotation

Edwin Jackson is struggling, but Dale Sveum says he won't drop him from Chicago's starting rotation.

"No, we're going to stick with him," Sveum said. "It's a long season. There's still another 20-plus starts here to fix this and get it going."

Jackson is 1-7 with a 6.11 ERA. He signed a four-year $52 million deal with the Cubs this past winter.

"You have a commitment there and you have to stick with the commitment," Sveum said. "Coach him and teach, but it's not like he's a kid. Sometimes you have to do it yourself."

Cubs Activate Matt Garza For Start

The Cubs have activated Matt Garza to start against the Pirates on Tuesday night.

Garza last pitched in a major league game on July 21, 2012.

He has been out since early in spring training with a lat injury after missing most of the second half of last season with an elbow problem.

"I'm excited and happy I don't have to rehab again," Garza said. "This actually means something, so I can't wait. It's been 10 months in the making, I'm excited to get back out there."

Cubs Activate Garza For Tuesday Start

The Chicago Cubs will activate Matt Garza off the disabled list to start against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday.

"I'm excited and happy I don't have to rehab again," Garza said. "This actually means something, so I can't wait. It's been 10 months in the making, I'm excited to get back out there."

An elbow injury sidelined Garza last July, and while rehabbing this spring, he suffered a lat strain and has been on the disabled list all season.

Dale Sveum said Garza would likely be held to around 85 to 90 pitches in his first start.

Cubs Won't Put Date On Garza's Return

Matt Garza threw 75 pitches in six innings for Triple-A Iowa on Thursday, but the Chicago Cubs aren't ready to put a date on his return.

Garza suffered a lat muscle strain in training camp and has not pitched for the Cubs this season.

"He did what we asked him to do," Dale Sveum said.
