Lackey used the word "retarded" in response to being questioned about the behavior of pitchers in the Red Sox clubhouse last season. "I apologize for my thoughtless choice of words that appeared in print earlier today. I meant no harm, and I am sorry to all I offended," the statement read. "I am embarrassed by the situation and apologize to my teammates and to the Red Sox organization for any distractions I may have caused," Jenks said in a statement released by the team. "I still need to let the legal process run its course and until it does, I will not be able to make any further comment." Jenks was arrested early Friday morning and charged with five misdemeanors, including driving under the influence and leaving the scene of a crash involving damage to property, according to Lee County police.
