Red Sox Trade Delcarmen To Rockies

The Red Sox have traded reliever Manny Delcarmen and cash to the Rockies for Single-A right-hander Chris Balcom-Miller.

Delcarmen was 3-2 with a 4.70 ERA, 32 strikeouts and 28 walks in 48 relief outings for Boston this season.

Colorado had been looking to bolster their bullpen as they try to remain in the NL playoff picture.

Delcarmen has been with Boston since he was drafted in 2000.

Boston Claim Napoli, Deal Unlikely

The Red Sox claimed Angels catcher/first baseman Mike Napoli off waivers late last week, according to a source.

However, the Boston Herald writes that a trade is unlikely.

The move was meant at least partly as a defensive one to keep Napoli to going to a team like the rival Rays.

According to the source, the Angels likely will pull Napoli back.

Red Sox, Victor Martinez Still Far Apart

The Red Sox have had preliminary talks with Victor Martinez on a contract extension, but nothing serious has been discussed.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe writes that, "He will have a market. The Tigers may be an excellent fit, because they need a catcher and a hitter for the middle of their order."
