After Conquering Mound, Boston Asks Green To Catch

The Red Sox have asked Nick Green to work out behind the plate as an emergency catcher. This kind of versatility will increase Green's chances of making the team in 2010.

Green also pitched two scoreless innings this week, which even made several Yankees root for him while they were watching in their clubhouse.

Sources: Giants, Marlins Interested In Penny

The Giants and Marlins are interested in Brad Penny, who was placed on waivers by the Red Sox this week.

Sources told ESPN.com of the team's interest in the pitcher, who Boston placed on waivers to make room for Tim Wakefield.

Interested teams will want him after he clears waivers, which is expected to happen Monday, otherwise they'll owe him more than $1 million in salary plus incentive bonuses.

The Rockies were believed to be interested in Penny, but sources claim that they won't pursue the former Dodger.
