Beckett's Elbow OK: Will Return Sept. 5

Josh Beckett's elbow has been diagnosed as "fine" and the pitcher is expected to start next week for the Red Sox once he's eligible to come off the disabled list, according to Boston Herald.

Beckett has been feeling a tingling sensation in his right arm for a good portion of the season, and has been scratched from three starts since his last one Aug. 17.

"It was a big relief," said Beckett, who flew to see Dr. James Andrews on Friday. "We?re cleared off because everybody?s scared at some point in time, whether it be me or the organization.

"It?s something I needed to do just to clear my mind and to make sure that this wasn?t anything more serious than we thought it was."

Red Sox Put Beckett On Disabled List

The Red Sox have placed pitcher Josh Beckett on the disabled list with a right elbow strain, according to MLB.com.

Beckett visited orthopedist Dr. James Andrews for his ailing pitching elbow on Friday, and Boston came away impressed.

"Awesome," Manager Terry Francona said of the news. "I guess from our standpoint. I don't know if he used that word."

"I think he just wanted to go down there and reassure himself that he's OK," left-hander Jon Lester said. "I don't blame him at all. He makes his living off his arm. You want to make sure everything is OK."

They placed him on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Aug. 18 - when he last pitched.

Beckett Pushed Back Again, Set To Visit Dr. Andrews

The Red Sox have pushed back pitcher Josh Beckett once again and he is set to visit Dr. James Andrews, according to Newsday.

Beckett was supposed to pitch Friday against the White Sox, but Daisuke Matsuzaka will make the start in his place.

"We're no more pessimistic about him today than we were," manager Terry Francona said, "but when he goes out there [again] we want him to be able to pitch with peace of mind."

Beckett hasn't pitched since Aug. 17, when he began to experience numbness and tingling in his right arm.
