Gagne Not Interested In Red Sox

Based on his words, it seems that Eric Gagne wouldn?t have much hesitation about joining the Red Sox.

?I think I could play here,? said the Rangers closer before his team?s series-opening game with the Red Sox at Fenway Park last night. ?Alex Cora is one of my really great friends, and he said they have a bunch of great guys, and is always saying positive things about Boston.?

But based on his contract, Gagne might not be sold on the idea of a trade-deadline deal to the Sox.

According to a major league source familiar with the situation, the Sox are not one of the 12 teams Gagne has on the list of teams to which he would agree to be traded. The Yankees, who had expressed serious interest in the 31-year-old until recently, are on the list.

200 Attend Services For Rod "Shooter" Beck

Former Giants manager Dusty Baker and current manager Bruce Bochy were among the estimated 200 people who attended the funeral Thursday for former major league pitcher Rod Beck.

Giants owner Peter Magowan and GM Brian Sabean also attended the services at a Scottsdale mortuary.

A three-time All-Star who saved 286 games, Beck was known for his bushy mustache and gregarious personality. His family and friends remembered him as an intimidating competitor who was a soft touch away from the field -- and as a man who devoted time and money to helping children with AIDS.

"At his core, he was determination," his wife, Stacey, said in remarks during the service. "He never quit. That doesn't mean he never failed. He just kept trying."

Schilling Will Remain Out Through All-Star Break

Curt Schilling is out through at least the All-Star break because of a sore right shoulder, and he still doesn't even know when he can begin throwing again.

The Red Sox on Wednesday slowed their already deliberate determination on when their 40-year-old ace can resume pitching.
