Schilling: It Was A Slip

On Wednesday, Curt Schilling tried to silence speculation that he might retire this winter, saying he intends to honor his contract.

?It was a slip,? said Schilling yesterday before the Sox? series finale against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays at Fenway. ?To hold us accountable for things we say within one hour after the game should be illegal. ?The last thing I wanted to do was drop that bomb to the media and have my wife find out that way. My marriage is not that secure.?

It's Officially Pesky's Pole At Fenway

It's officially Pesky's Pole.

The Boston Red Sox renamed the right-field foul pole in honor of former player and coach Johnny Pesky before Wednesday's game against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Pesky, a 56-year member of the organization, was honored on his 87th birthday with an on-field ceremony. He threw out the ceremonial first pitch to pitcher Tim Wakefield.

Ortiz Not A Fan Of Trading Manny

David Ortiz is already dreading the possibility of walking 200 times a year, if the Red Sox end up trading Manny Ramirez without getting a big bat in return who can protect him in the lineup.

?If you trade a guy like Manny, you better have something coming in. That?s all I have to say,? Ortiz said. ?I don?t have the answers for that. But you have the GM, you have the manager. You have (John Henry and Larry Lucchino). Ask them. They know. If anyone knows, they know what they?re going to do with him. ?But if I don?t have Manny, I won?t see a pitch,? Ortiz went on, his voice rising. ?If you trade Manny, you might want to have Barry Bonds here, or something good. But I have no control of that. Hopefully, they don?t (trade him). That?s something I don?t want to have anything to do with. There?s a lot of things in this game you can go off on. I don?t want to have nothing to do with it. I don?t want to talk about it.?
