Red Sox Will Look To Deal For Izturis

Although the Red Sox insist they're committed to Alex Gonzalez for his defense at shortstop and not concerned with his sub-.300 on-base percentage, they are getting ready to engage in trade talks with the Dodgers for Cesar Izturis as soon as he comes off the disabled list.

Rocket Telling No Secrets

If Roger Clemens has plans on pitching for the Yankees this summer, he hasn't informed the captain.

"I stay in touch with him, but he hasn't said anything," Derek Jeter said of Clemens. "He really hasn't."

Jeter, who shared a house with Clemens during the Anaheim portion of the World Baseball Classic, said after the tournament that it was his belief that Clemens would continue his Hall of Fame career. However, Jeter made it clear that it was only a hunch.

If Clemens, 43, chooses to return, he'll be pursued by the Astros, Rangers, Red Sox and Yankees involved. Though the Astros appear to have an edge because Clemens could stay home and be permitted to come and go as he pleased, it's unknown if the Astros will be willing to spend what it takes to keep Clemens. He made $18 million last year ($3 million a month) and isn't likely to take a cut.

Schilling Expects To Retire After 2007 Season

Curt Schilling is 39 years old and is seeing the end of his playing career.

"I've got another year left after this one and then I'm done," said Schilling yesterday. "God willing I can stay healthy the next two years, have good years and win a World Series, but after that I'm done. I couldn't be more ecstatic about what I've been given a chance to do."

He wouldn't change anything.

"Nothing," he said. "If it ended today I would be so blessed and grateful for all the things that have happened to me, JUCO being one of them because that was the foundation for everything and I wouldn't trade that for anything."
