The Orioles have placed pitcher Alfredo Simon on outright waivers, according to sources.

Dan Duquette, Baltimore's executive vice president of baseball operations, said that information about the waiver process is confidential and that Simon currently remains on the 40-man roster.

Simon has been both a starter and a reliever for the Orioles, making 16 starts while appearing in 23 games last season.

Wieters Isn't Upset About Contract Renewal

Matt Wieters says he will not hold a grudge against the Orioles for exercising their right to renew his contract on Saturday.

"They have the right to offer any contract they want," the catcher said. "That's their right. I'm just ready to play baseball."

Major League teams have the right to renew a player who does not have three years of major league service time or "Super 2" arbitration status as long as they don't cut his salary more than 20 percent from the previous year and fall below the major league minimum salary.

Wieters will not be eligible for free agency until after the 2015 season.

"I've got a lot of years of playing left," he said. "Free agency is a long way away. I'm just worried about getting ready for this year."
