Orioles' Mora Isn't Worried About Contract Status

Orioles third baseman Melvin Mora isn't worried about his contract status, even though he's entering the final guaranteed year of his deal.

Mora, 37, will make $9 million in his tenth, and possibly last, season with the club. The deal includes an option for 2010 at the same price.

"I would love to be here for the rest of my career, but that's not my decision," Mora said. "It's [president] Andy MacPhail's decision, and whenever he is ready to talk, we'll be ready to talk."

"Obviously, it's fairly close to done," he said. "I think we're all excited about the possibility it is where it is. It's a long process, but in the end both sides are happy."

The two parties are rumored to be close on a four-year extension worth $40 million.

"If it works out the way we want it to, it's great for me and my family," Roberts said. "It's something we put a lot of thought and effort into on both sides."
