Orioles Could Make Run At Teixeira, Burnett

The Orioles could make a play for expected free agents Mark Teixeira and A.J. Burnett this winter.

Teixeira grew up just outside of Baltimore, and Burnett lives close to the city during the offseason.

"I think we would be remiss if we don't look into what might be unique opportunities in the case of geographic ties to the area," said Andy MacPhail, who did not name names. "I think we owe it to our fans to explore that. Again, I don't know how realistic it would be, but I think we'd be remiss in not exploring it."

O's To Talk Extensions With Roberts, Markakis

The Orioles are preparing to talk about contract extensions with both Brian Roberts and Nick Markakis, according to Baltimore Sun.

President ofBbaseball Operations Andy MacPhail claims he will explore extension talks with the agents of both Roberts and Markakis in the coming weeks.

"It would be difficult for me envisioning an offseason where we don't explore and see what their appetite [for a contract extension] is given that he is coming into his final season next year," MacPhail said. "I would expect that we have a conversation. Where it's going to go? I don't know. But I would expect that we would have a conversation about it."

Pettitte Will Close Yankee Stadium

Andy Pettitte will start for the Yankees on Sept. 21 against the Orioles in the final regular season game held at Yankee Stadium, according to New York Daily News.

"It'll be an emotional night for me, for sure, being able to make that last start here," Pettitte said Friday. "It's wonderful, and I'm glad I'm going to have the opportunity."

Manager Joe Girardi said the decision to start Pettitte "seems fitting."
