Cal Ripken Jr. Buying Rays' Minor League Team

Cal Ripken Jr. is buying a minor league baseball team in Florida, the Class A Vero Beach Rays of the Florida State League, according to Baltimore Business Journal.

The Rays are an affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, and this will be the third minor league franchise acquired by Ripken Baseball, which also owns the Aberdeen IronBirds and the Augusta GreenJackets.

Pavano Wins In Return To The Mound

Carl Pavano returned to New York's rotation on Saturday against Baltimore and provided the Yankees with five innings of solid pitching, according to The Associated Press.

The Yankees won 5-3, on the strength of a two-run home run by Jason Giambi in the third inning.

Pavano allowed seven hits and three runs in five innings while striking out five Orioles in the process.

Hideki Matsui homered in the seventh inning to extend New York's lead to 5-3. Brian Bruney, Jose Veras, and Mariano Rivera pitched four shutout innings, combining to allow just two hits, preserving Pavano's win.

Orioles Hopeful That Adam Jones Will Return

The Orioles are hopeful that outfielder Adam Jones will return to baseball activity by the end of the week as he returns from a fractured left foot, according to The Washington Post.

Jones is hitting .279 with 7 home runs and 59 RBIs in 108 games for Baltimore this season.
