Braves Send Two Prospects To Cubs For Maholm, Johnson

The Braves added a left-hander to their rotation and a right-handed bat to their bench Monday night by acquiring Paul Maholm and Reed Johnson from the Cubs.

Braves GM Frank Wren confirmed the team is sending right-handed pitchers Arodys Vizcaino, a top prospect, and Jaye Chapman to the Cubs, who also sent cash to the Braves.

Manager Concerned With Chipper's Twitter Account

Fredi Gonzalez is worried about the new Twitter account of Braves third baseman Chipper Jones.

The Braves manager says his mood turned sour after reading the latest tweet on Chipper's @RealCJ10 feed: "Wow Mikey Minor! Hats off to Blanton too. They were dealing. 4 game streak since I got on the twitta. Got a date wit the Doc tmrw. Go Bravos."

Gonzalez said Sunday he "tossed and turned all night" as he worried about Jones' chronic knee problems.

The manager finally realized Jones was referring to Phillies ace Roy "Doc" Halladay, who is starting against Jones and the Braves on Sunday.

Braves Could Still End Up With Dempster

The longer the Cubs go without agreeing to send Ryan Dempster to the Dodgers, the more baseball people think he could still end up with the Braves.

Atlanta is still looking for a starting pitcher and recently lost out on potential target Zack Greinke, who was traded to the Angels.

Dempster never directly said that he wouldn't go to the Braves, but he also never approved the deal that the two teams reached last week.

Braves Are Still Looking For Starter

The Braves are focused on dealing for an elite pitcher prior to next week's non-waiver trade deadline.

While general manager Frank Wren and his staff spend the next few days evaluating their options, they will explore the possibility of improving their bench and bullpen as well.

One option, Zack Greinke, was dealt to the Angels on Friday night.

"Frank and I talk all the time and keep in touch all the time about stuff," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said.

"You can't help it this time of year when you watch MLB Network to notice a rumor out there or a tweet. But I'm to the point where whoever gets here, gets here."

Source: Dempster Open To More Options

The Dodgers are not the only team Ryan Dempster would accept a trade to this month, according to a source.

Dempster will consider a number of teams, including the Dodgers and Braves, if the Cubs come to a deal.

"He has not said that he wouldn't go to Atlanta or anywhere else for that matter," the source said.

"He wants to take his time and has earned the right to wait on approving a deal having his 10-5 rights."
