Six Teams Showing Interest In Garza

Cubs president Theo Epstein has discussed right-hander Matt Garza with about six teams as the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline approaches.

The Boston Globe writes that the Braves, Tigers, Cardinals, Red Sox, Blue Jays, and Royals have interest in Garza.

Epstein is looking for a nice haul in return for Garza.

Livan Hernandez Signs With Brewers

The Brewers have signed veteran right-hander Livan Hernandez to a one-year contract, according to an ESPN.com report on Friday.

The Braves designated Hernandez for assignment on June 15 and released him on Monday. He pitched 18 games for the Braves, all out of the bullpen, with a 1-1 record and a 4.94 ERA.

Hernandez is in his 17th major league season and has a career record of 175-177 with a 4.40 ERA.

Beachy Has Successful Tommy John Surgery

The Braves say Brandon Beachy has had successful right elbow ligament-replacement surgery.

The operation was performed by Dr. James Andrews in Gulf Breeze, Fla., on Thursday. Andrews has performed many of the ligament replacement operations known as Tommy John surgery.

Beachy faces a recovery period of at least one year and will miss the remainder of the season.

Chipper, Braves End Yankees' Streak

Chipper ones atoned for a costly error by cutting down the potential tying run at the plate and the Braves held on to end the Yankees' 10-game winning streak with a 4-3 victory Tuesday night, according to an ESPN.com report.

Beachy To Visit Dr. Andrews About Tear

Braves pitcher Brandon Beachy is set to visit orthopedist Dr. James Andrews for a second opinion on the partial tear in his right elbow.

Manager Fredi Gonzalez says team orthopedist Dr. Xavier Duralde confirmed the tear on Tuesday. Beachy will see Andrews on Wednesday.
