GM Feels Acquiring Teixeira Has Not Aversely Affected Braves

The Braves are struggling, but GM Frank Wren believes his team has the advantage of time. He won't be gunshy, however, about making a big trade.

?The (Mark) Teixeira trade hasn?t impacted us at all,? he said. ?If you look at the players we gave up, I?m not sure it?s had any effect on the major league club. We had Escobar ahead of [Elvis] Andrus at shortstop, we had [Brian] McCann ahead of [Jarrod] Saltalamacchia at catcher, the other guys wouldn?t have made our club. Neftali Feliz would be in our bullpen.?

Is Pujols Worth $50M Annually?

Braves manager Bobby Cox says that Albert Pujols is worth $50 million per year.

Discussions of Pujols' worth have spiked since the Phillies gave Ryan Howard a five-year, $125 million extension on Monday.

"We'll double [Pujols' salary], because he's twice as good as anybody else," Cox told reporters.

"It's his all-round ability to play the game. He's the best hitter in the game -- for me. And you're not going to find anybody that plays first base much better than he does or has better instincts of playing the game of baseball.

"It's a pretty good package."

Pujols is in the final year of a seven-year, $100 million contract with St. Louis.

Braves Lose Jones To Hip Injury

Braves third baseman Chipper Jones injured his hip while swinging the bat on Saturday against the Mets.

Jones suffered the injury during his first at-bat and came out after 2 1/2 innings.

"It popped," he said. "I couldn't push off at all."

Jones believes he could be sidelined for multiple games.

"I've never had that happen before, in football or anything," he said. "It still hurts after I've had ice and everything."
