Yankee Insider: 'Johnny Overplayed His Hand'

With the Giants signing Bengie Molina, they are out of the running for Johnny Damon.

Due to how the market has presented itself, Damon probably should have accepted a final offer from the Yankees worth $14 million over two seasons.

One team insider said, ?Johnny overplayed his hand.?

Damon now must hope the Yankees are open to reengaging talks, or that the Braves can find a spot for him.

Glavine Could Get Front-Office Job In Atlanta

Tom Glavine could soon join the Braves in a front-office capacity.

The 305-game winner is in talks with the organization about duties ranging from front-office work to instructing players in the minor leagues and perhaps even some broadcasting.

"I've talked to Tommy several times since the season ended," said Braves president John Schuerholz. "It's always been in our mind that ultimately, eventually something like this might be a possibility.

"We've discussed it with Tommy. I've talked to [Glavine's agent] Gregg Clifton. We're in the exploratory-discussion phase, but the interest has always been there. ... The admiration and appreciation is understood."

Glavine hasn't officially retired, but he's clearly leaning that way.

Lowe Puts Trade Rumors In Past, Wants To Stay In Atlanta

A month ago Derek Lowe expected to be traded by the Braves, but he's now putting rumors in the past and focusing on staying in Atlanta.

The Braves tried to trade Lowe, but no team was interested in taking on his contract without Atlanta picking up a large portion of the money owed.

Atlanta dealt Javier Vazquez to New York for center fielder Melky Cabrera, a move that appears to have solidified Lowe's place in the rotation.

"Absolutely not," Lowe said when asked by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution if he'd enter Spring Training with a chip on his shoulder.

"When you're a year into a four-year deal -- obviously when you're going through the free-agent process you pick a place you want to go, you do all that homework, you get there, find a place," he said.

"That was the frustrating part, you find a place you like, [but] Atlanta gives no no-trade clauses. ... That had everything to do with [his comments last month]. It was nothing with not liking Atlanta. Look at it any way you want, but it was just that I wanted to stay."
