Braves Get LaRoche From Red Sox For Kotchman

The Braves have reportedly acquired first baseman Adam LaRoche from the Red Sox.

Boston is in the process of trading for Cleveland's Victor Martinez, which makes LaRoche, who the Red Sox acquired just last week, expendable.

Atlanta is expected to send Casey Kotchman to Boston in the deal.

Braves Aren't Expected To Make Trade

Braves general manager Frank Wren has indicated that the team is unlikely to make any moves prior to Friday's non-waiver trade deadline.

Atlanta is known to have checked on some available relievers, including Oakland's Michael Wuertz. However, the players believe that they can win with their current lineup.

"It's been a blast coming back from the All-Star game knowing you've got a chance to play in October," catcher Brian McCann told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "There's a good mix of guys here. This team has a chance to win. We've proven it the last month and a half. We just have to keep doing it the next two months.

"This team is really good."

Atlanta is eight games back of Philadelphia for first place in the NL East, but sits just three games back of Colorado in the Wild Card race.

Aaron: Put Asterisk By Steroid-Linked Records

Former home run king Hank Aaron believes that an asterisk should be placed beside the names of players linked to steroids.

"The thing is, do you put these guys in, or do you put an asterisk beside their names and say, 'Hey, they did it, but here's why?' " Aaron told reporters in Cooperstown. "To be safe, that's the only way I see that you can do it."

Aaron is one of 50 Hall of Famers in attendance for the induction of the 2009 class this weekend.

"I played the game long enough to know, and it is impossible for players -- I don't care who they are -- to hit 70 home runs," Aaron said. "It just does not happen. I think that's one reason why people's eyes started opening up and they said, 'How can this guy do this?'

"It's hard to say the reason you hit a home run is because you're on steroids. I don't believe that. I believe your body can recuperate quickly to come back on the field. But I certainly don't think you can stand up there and hit a Nolan Ryan 100 mph fastball just because you put something in your arm or took a pill."
